Shapes!

For this assignment we were to work with Photoshop and draw a variety of shapes using the custom shape tool. Then with each shape we were to experiment with some functions on Photoshop including different styles, colors, textures, and photographs. Below is an image of the before and after of each shape.

With the heart I changed the style under the styles panel in Photoshop. I then moved onto the paw print and changed the colors to incorporate JMU. With the Fleur De Lis I filtered the shape to reflect a different texture, the one I chose was Mosaic. Then lastly with the sun shape I went into stockvault and saved a picture of a flower. Then I drew the shape of the sun over the flower picture and magnetic lasso-ed it out to be able to select the inverse; cutting out the excess of the picture, leaving me with the outline of just the sun.

Regarding Krause questions on connotation, attribution, and placement I believe I was able to follow the principles as much as I could in relation to the assignment. This assignment wasn't supposed to be very complex so I kept it very simple with just before and after images. I believe the theme of shapes was reflected and the attributes of style, color, texture, and photos was represented within each individual shape. The placement was also simple, centered and horizontal, and visually appealing.

Gestalt Principles

For this assignment we were to incorporate the theories of Gestalt who believed that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Through PowerPoint we were to take basic shapes and arrange them to follow Gestalts four principles: Closure, Proximity, Similarity, and Continuity. Below are images I have created to incorporate these principles. I chose basic shapes such as diamonds, hexagons, circles, hearts, and arrows to reflect these theories. I also chose to keep the color scheme of black and white which is what Gestalt used.

Regarding Krause questions on connotation, attributes, and placement I believe I represented these principles really well. The visual style of each image correctly reflects its theme. I don't think I could have thickened or changed the size of the attributes because using the black and white shapes is what Gestalt is known for so it correctly reflects his principles as well. All of the images were placed in the center and spaced out according to the definition of what the images were reflecting.
